Our first letters of introduction and Boîtes Culturelles have begun arriving at their respective destinations in France! Genial!
My classes are bubbling with excitement over their first correspondences to their French epals! We used language from Unit 1 Salut, les copains! (Hi friends!) to write our first hand-written letters. Each student will have one or two middle school students in France with whom they will correspond mostly by email this school year. We will use our unit vocabulary to correspond. We will work on our written and speaking standards of communication. It's so fun to see that the students actually WANT to use French to communicate with people their own age. Plus they are making friends that could last a lifetime! I like to think of this as a world peace project as well :)
In addition, we all mailed Culture Boxes which included items we thought represented our culture here in Maine, USA. Now we wait PATIENTLY for the French students to return their first letters and their BOÎTE CULTURELLES!! ePals curriculum guide This curriculum is aligned with Saco Middle School French/Spanish grades 7 & 8, 2016-2017, curriculum maps. The 2013 edition of the textbook by Holt McDougal, Bien dit!, French level 1a, units 1-5, has been closely referred to for specific Learning Targets, as well as for appropriate scope and sequence, throughout this curriculum. The overarching purpose of the ePal Project is to give students a chance to USE the language they are learning to communicate with peers in a country where the target language is spoken. Our partner teachers have the same goal; therefore, we communicate half in English and half in the target language. We are therefore sharing our culture, and participating in global collaboration to solve an international issue, that of learning to communicate in the same language.
